Jeremy was passionate about what is now called cosmetology. By creating hair products with various plant extracts, he earned a reputation as a «wizard» who could revive even the most lifeless hair. Inspired by his success and blessed with a talent for running a business, the great-grandfather of the company’s current owner opened a barbershop where a customer could receive the full range of services, from hair washing to haircuts and shaving.
The barbershop brought in a steady income, and Jeremy found himself with free time, which he devoted to inventing new formulas and very quickly expanding the line of cosmetics and skin care products, as well as popularizing high-quality, hypoallergenic shaving creams.
Jeremy was respected in high society circles. He managed to secure a contract with Her Majesty’s government to cut the hair of convicts who were being sent to penal colonies in Australia (a short haircut reduced the risk of lice on cramped sailing ships during the long voyage). By doing his work carefully and well, Taylor built a reputation, grew close to the aristocracy, and earned the status of a «court barber.»
By the end of the 19th century in London, Bond Street was lined with fashionable boutiques and shops. The most desirable customers gathered here, ready to spend money, but only on the condition that the goods would match their high expectations. Taylor of Old Bond Street became one of those companies.
Later generations of the family carried on the business, and in 1930 they opened another branch on Jermyn Street. This barbershop is still open today — you can visit it at 74 Jermyn Street, London, right in the heart of the fashionable West End. In honor of this street, the brand has a separate collection called Jermyn Street.
Much has changed in the world since then, but the brand’s philosophy has remained the same — four generations of Taylors continue to create outstanding shaving products and have never compromised on product quality. The original formulas have not changed much over the years; they still rely on quality ingredients, but they are becoming more modern: the brand is moving away from parabens and switching to sustainably sourced raw materials.
The products are still made only in England. The philosophy of Taylor of Old Bond Street is a balance of high-quality ingredients and exquisitely elegant fragrances. Whether you use their consistently popular Sandalwood Shaving Cream or items from the newer collections — Oud Shaving Cream or Tobacco Leaf Aftershave Lotion — you always feel like a gentleman.
